Equipment Class Guide

How to Use This Guide

This page catalogs the major ASIC miner classes we evaluate at our Daegu bench. It is a reference for understanding cost-longevity tradeoffs — not a purchase recommendation. Every buying decision depends on your electricity rate, cooling setup, and how long you plan to operate.

Entry Tier: 0.05 – 5 TH/s

Legacy units and compact miners still found in the Korean secondhand market. Attractive purchase price, but parts scarcity and high J/TH make them suitable only for operators with very low electricity costs or short-term mining windows.

Model ClassTypical Purchase (used)Expected Useful LifeJ/TH Range
Antminer S9 variants₩80,000 – ₩200,0006–12 months80–100
Whatsminer M3₩100,000 – ₩250,0008–14 months70–90

Mid Tier: 50 – 120 TH/s

The bulk of current Korean small-farm deployments. Strong balance of hashrate and availability of spare parts, though used-unit variance is high.

Model ClassTypical Purchase (used)Expected Useful LifeJ/TH Range
Antminer S19 / S19j₩1.2M – ₩2.5M18–30 months28–34
Whatsminer M30S₩1.0M – ₩2.2M16–28 months30–38
Avalon A1246₩900,000 – ₩2.0M14–24 months32–40

High Tier: 120 – 250+ TH/s

Current-generation units with the best efficiency but highest upfront cost. Justified when electricity is expensive or you need maximum density per rack.

Model ClassTypical Purchase (new)Expected Useful LifeJ/TH Range
Antminer S19 XP₩4.5M – ₩6.0M30–42 months20–22
Whatsminer M50S₩4.0M – ₩5.5M28–40 months22–26
Antminer S21₩5.5M – ₩7.5M36–48 months17–20
Key tradeoff: A used S19j at ₩1.5M may look cheaper than a new S19 XP at ₩5.5M, but after 24 months of operation at ₩120/kWh, the XP often delivers lower cost-per-terahash-hour. Our longevity evaluations model this exact comparison for your situation.

Climate Considerations in Korea

Daegu and southern regions experience summer humidity that accelerates fan bearing wear and condensate risk in poorly ventilated warehouses. Coastal facilities in Busan and Incheon face salt-air corrosion on PSU connectors. We factor regional climate into every evaluation — a miner that performs well in a climate-controlled Seoul basement may degrade faster in a Daegu tin-roof warehouse.
